Dr. Giselle Blair

After graduating from residency I moved to the South excited about the prospect of southern living and confident that my training would allow me to positively impact the health of my patients. Within the first few weeks of practicing however, I noted a large portion of my patients with complications from obesity and long-standing diabetes and I was diagnosing metabolic syndrome and diabetes on a daily basis in both adults and children. I quickly realized that my practice simply reflected national trends where ~1 in 10 Americans have diabetes and 1 in 3 pre-diabetes. A similar picture exists for obesity where approximately 71% of adults and up to 40% of children are overweight or have obesity. These numbers reflect real people struggling to manage these diseases.
